Reclaiming Yarn
Tomorrow, I will begin Week 4 of my 14-week semester. I am already swamped. There are so many projects to work on that I’m too overwhelmed to even begin any of them! I’ve been procrastinating by knitting for Craftstock. I designed a simple cabled cowl (pattern soon), & decided to buy some sweaters to get some cheap yarn.
My friend Ana inspired the idea: she’s working on a really neat felt project, & bought a wool sweater to get more yarn than she could ever need for the piece! So I went out & found three sweaters. A beautiful mustard yellow (pictured below), a nice oatmeal-coloured wool/mohair/acrylic blend, & a brand new, cabled-all-over-the-place, 100% wool fisherman’s sweater. How can I possibly rip that one to pieces? It’s so lovely that I might even have to return it to the thrift store. It would break my heart … but the yarn is really nice. Dilemma!
Above is the mustard yarn. I was determined to purchase something in this colour, but, unfortunately, this yarn turned out to be a really sad acrylic. The plies have all come untwisted, & the seams were done in such a way that I couldn’t tell which thread was knit & which was a seam — so it’s in a lot of little pieces. I may have to ditch this one!
I do have an appointment with a woman who has a whole store’s worth of yarn to get rid of, so my search is not yet over!
